Do you know why do we need a certain energy level to start on to any task?

Have you ever imagined how much intensity of the stimulus is required by our arm muscles to lift a dumbbell set?

Why does it take very long to adhere to a well-planned weekly schedule at work?

What if I say all these answers lay in our own psychological setup?

Hurrah! This would be pretty awesome to hear as it is easy to mold our psychology for our benefit, right?

Nopes, not at all! If it would have been the case, nobody would have seen dull days in their lives.

Let us uncover the mystery behind this seemingly alterable and obvious psychological trend of developing the courage to cross a THRESHOLD…

Gaining a detailed understanding of what a Psychological Threshold is and how it operates is of vital importance:

Bearing its original denotation, the word 'threshold' meaning the sill of a door or entrance as mentioned in Webster, the contributors in the field of physiology and psychology have extended its connotation to be "the stimulus intensity required to initiate a nerve impulse or muscular contraction".

While extrapolating the same in the context of the above graph, the subliminal of a stimulus or mental process means to be below the threshold of sensation or consciousness; perceived by or affecting someone's mind without their being aware of it. Therefore, it becomes evidently important to cross this subliminal stimuli or mental process value which corresponds to "the absolute threshold value".

The concept of threshold seems to hold true as a Universal truth in nature. To create a breakthrough, we need to overcome our individual psychological thresholds by working on enhancing the required stimulus to provoke us from our mental dormancy.

What I mean by mental dormancy? I simply mean a state of lassitude and repeated procrastination tendency towards what needs to be accomplished to fall in shape, secure a dream job, get cured of an illness, develop a relationship with desired person or any other the most desired life goal to be achieved.

Here are some quick tricks to help overcome this self-created "PSYCHOLOGICAL THRESHOLD"...

Trick#1: Jot down a list of unaccomplished tasks of past one year
This trick must be performed within a limited time of 10 minutes. Sit in a relaxing position thinking about the most important tasks left unaccomplished in last year for at least 5 minutes before you switch on a timer for your actual 10 minutes list jotting down the task.
With a ready list in your hand, you will have what is bothering your head, your mind, and your psychology therein. By using the timer, we are literally able to recall only what was the most urgent and important.

Trick#2: Selecting from prioritized unaccomplished list
Given the fact that this portion of the trick is more attention-demanding than any other trick, we need to select only top 3 priorities from the list prepared in an above trick.

By doing so, we have restrained our psychology from concentrating on what was least important apart from these 3 tasks on the selected list now. The benefit of such a selection happens within our prefrontal cortex which is responsible for goal setting and goal updating activities in our brain. The prefrontal cortex is associated with signaling particularly in direction of our goals by inducing the release of brain chemical dopamine and thereby facilitates the generation of efforts by individual towards goal achievement.

Trick#3: Taking an inventory of psychological threshold
Another variety of psychological threshold is difference threshold, which refers to the smallest difference between two stimuli necessary to produce a noticeable change in sensation or realization. This can be translated as a change of efforts in the direction towards or away from goals. Smartness lies in discovering from time to time whether our goals are consistent with our set psychology or is it having a reasonable fluctuation with passing time.

For doing so one needs to periodically remind oneself of set goals and deadlines for each goal. Depending on the magnitude of your psychological threshold, the term standing for this "period" will vary. For some it might be an annual affair, for others it might be twice a year or for some people like me it might be a daily ritual. Yes! It certainly helps me speed up goal achievement when I take inventory of my goals and thus psychological threshold daily. What I do is I write a journal with neatly and clearly defined goals in it, on a daily basis. This trick has helped me reduce my psychological threshold towards a few goals while for some others I am still struggling. However, I am sure if I continue applying this trick for a long time, it would certainly leverage my psychological threshold by reducing its limiting value for my other goals too.

Trick#4: Celebrating leveraged psychological threshold
Interesting caption right???
I know we all enjoy celebrations and so does our psychology too. By giving timely rewards to our psychology for having reduced its threshold value by aligning with our consistent efforts to do so, we create a win-win situation for us.

How can we do that? Spending time and investing energy in the activities that our psychology enjoys to do for certain hours. For example, if someone is a chef, his psychological setup loves to cook. So for celebrating and thanking his psychology for reducing threshold values for his recently achieved success in a cookery contest, he could spend time baking some delicious cakes. Similarly, for an investment banker, it could be spending time with his topmost investing clients or for a dancer, it could be dancing flawlessly on tunes of a new music.

I trust this piece of helpful tricks could help millions for drastically reducing their psychological thresholds and so for our mutual advantage, we must share it with as many as we could. It helped me to overcome thorns in paths to my desired goals and the same help could be sought by others in a similar manner.

With an intent to create this world a better place to survive in, let us resolve to overcome our Psychological Threshold by thriving in our fields and setting oneself up towards novel goals continuously.
